Inauguration of the New Canteen: A New Space for Students and Staff

On September 26th, 2024, the new canteen at our college was officially inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Baby Thomas and our Principal, Riju John.  "ONAVESHAM-2024"

The Onam celebration in our college was a vibrant and joyous occasion that brought together students and staff to honor Kerala's rich cultural heritage. The day began with the creation of an elaborate Pookkalam (floral rangoli) at the entrance of the campus, showcasing intricate designs made from fresh flowers. Students and faculty, dressed in traditional Kerala attire, added to the festive atmosphere. The highlight of the celebration was the grand Onam Sadya, where a traditional feast was served on banana leaves, featuring a variety of authentic Kerala dishes. Cultural programs followed, with performances such as Thiruvathirakali and traditional song. The event also included fun games and activities like tug-of-war and Uriyadi (breaking the pot), which added a competitive yet fun spirit to the day. Today I have an opportunity to visit Veluthambi Dalava memorial Museum, Mannadi as part of our Arts Education.  The Department of Archaeology museum illuminates the heroism of the Dalawa and the cultural legacy of ancient Travancore. An open-air gallery enriches the experience, showcasing portraits of Travancore rulers from Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma to Sree Chithra Thirunal. In addition, the museum displays several historical pieces, including a stone Buddha statue, age-old agricultural tools, cannons, and old war apparatuses. There is also a pictorial gallery on Veluthambi Dalawa’s life and a gallery focusing on old coins. Within the compound, visitors can also view a Lord Shiva shrine, reportedly demolished by the British. The museum grounds feature a picturesque garden and house a library. It is built on 1.27 acres of land.
