WEEKLY REFLECTION- 5
Date: 11 August – 17 August 2025
I reached the school on time and revised my lesson plan before entering the classroom. I introduced the new concept of Multiplication Identities, and the students actively participated in understanding the patterns through examples. After the class, I helped with school-related work. In the afternoon, a Kerala Cricket League-related programme was organized, which created a lively atmosphere in the school. I spent some time with my peers before leaving for the day.
I reached the school on time and participated in the Book Exhibition, which displayed a wide range of books by different authors. It was an inspiring event that promoted reading habits among students and teachers alike. On that day, I handled classes on solving problems related to multiplication identities and also took a special class dealing with problems involving multiplication with difference. Both sessions went well, and students showed active interest in problem-solving activities.
I arrived at the school on time and interacted with my peers during the free hours. I took a substitution class, teaching the topic Special Operation under Multiplication Identities. Later, I conducted another class on Special Operation using the Concept Attainment Model, which encouraged students to identify concepts through examples and non-examples. The sessions went smoothly, and students were engaged throughout. I completed my records and left the school after finishing all duties.
I reached the school on time and prepared for my observation class. The topic for the day was Number Curiosity under Unique Multiplication Identities, and the session was very effective and interactive. I also handled a substitution period in which I continued the same topic, helping students explore interesting number patterns. On this day, the NSS unit conducted an awareness programme on HIV/AIDS, which was very informative and impactful. After completing all my work, I left the school on time.
I reached the school on time. Since it was a Saturday, there were fewer students, and Friday’s timetable was followed due to the Independence Day holiday. I handled a class on problems based on multiplication identities and number curiosity, giving students additional practice in applying the concepts they had learned. As it was the last working day before the Onam examinations and vacation, I met my mentor, discussed future plans, and wished everyone a Happy Onam before leaving the school
A special program titled Kakkarishi Naadakam was conducted at St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, on 14th August 2025. The main theme of the Naadakam was drug abuse and its harmful effects on students’ lives.
The program was well-organized and successfully achieved its aim of spreading awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. It also encouraged students to lead a healthy and disciplined life. Overall, the Kakkarishi Naadakam was a meaningful and impactful event that left a lasting impression on everyone present.
On 11th August 2025, a Book Fair was conducted in our school. We reached the school at 9:00 a.m. and marked our attendance. The whole campus was filled with excitement and curiosity as students eagerly waited to visit the fair.
Different stalls displayed a wide variety of books — storybooks, novels, dictionaries, and subject-related books. Teachers and students actively took part in the event. Many students showed great interest in reading and purchased books of their choice.
The fair encouraged students to develop a reading habit and gain more knowledge. It was an enjoyable and educational experience for everyone. The teachers appreciated the students for their active participation.
WEEKLY REFLECTION- 4
Date: 4 August – 8 August 2025
School: St. Mary’s HSS, Kizhakkekara
The fourth week of my teaching practice, from 4th to 8th August 2025, was a very engaging and memorable one, filled with both classroom teaching and co-curricular responsibilities. This week I handled both Mathematics lessons as well as substitution periods in different classes, and I also experienced my first observation by the college teacher.
On 4th August (Monday)
I taught the class during the third period where I focused on problem solving related to the Mid-section of a Triangle under the chapter Parallel Lines. Students participated actively and solved both simple and complex problems, which strengthened their understanding.
On 5th August (Tuesday)
I introduced a new concept – Triangle Centres – through an interesting story of three brave travelers. This innovative approach created curiosity, and the students listened carefully. In the afternoon, I engaged in substitution duty with Class 8F where I also collected and worked on Sociometric data, which turned out to be an enjoyable session for the students.
On 6th August (Wednesday)
The school observed Hiroshima Day, which was commemorated with posters and collages prepared by students under the guidance of teachers and trainees. I also conducted my regular class in the 4th period and later took a Diagnostic test in a substitution period to evaluate the students’ grasp of the Parallel Lines chapter. The test went smoothly, and the students performed better than expected.
On 7th August (Thursday)
I had my first formal observation by my college teacher, Nisha Miss, during the 2nd period. I introduced the new chapter Multiplication Identities and began with the concept of the product of sums. Though there were minor distractions, the session was generally successful, and I received positive feedback as well as constructive suggestions for improvement. In the 5th period substitution, I helped students solve problems related to the same topic.
On 8th August (Friday)
I introduced another new concept, Multiplication with a Difference, during the first period substitution. Later in my 5th period regular class, I explained and solved problems on the same topic. The students were enthusiastic and actively engaged as they found the problems familiar from their previous year’s learning.
6th August 2025
On 6th August 2025 (Wednesday), our school observed Hiroshima Day to remember the victims of the atomic bomb and to spread the message of peace. The program was led by the NCC cadets, along with the teachers and students. Different activities like poster-making, collage preparation, and peace messages were displayed to create awareness about the importance of the day.
As trainees, we also helped in monitoring and supporting the program. The students actively took part in the activities and showed their creativity. The event reminded everyone about the value of peace and the need to avoid war and violence.
The day ended with a strong message that we should always work for harmony, humanity, and a peaceful future.
The day began with the inaugural ceremony, where the Headmaster delivered the welcome address and formally declared the Sports Meet open. The school ground was beautifully decorated with flags, banners, and tracks marked for various events. The NCC cadets presented a disciplined march-past, and the school choir rendered a patriotic song, adding charm to the ceremony.
The events were categorized into track and field competitions, including 100m, 200m, relay races, long jump, high jump, and shot put. There were also fun events for junior classes like lemon-spoon race and sack race, which made the atmosphere lively. The enthusiasm of the students, the cheers from classmates, and the encouragement from teachers made every event memorable.
As trainees, we were assigned different duties. I was placed in the First Aid Team along with my peers Anu Aniyan, and Albin. We attended to students who had minor injuries such as sprains and scratches, ensuring that they received immediate care. Apart from our main duty, we also extended help in organizing events, managing groups of students, and assisting teachers in scoring and record-keeping.
One of the highlights of the day was the relay race finals, which drew the loudest cheers from both teachers and students. The spirit of healthy competition and team unity was evident throughout. At the end of the program, the winners were awarded medals and certificates by the Headmaster and senior teachers.
The Sports Day concluded with the National Anthem, marking the end of a day filled with energy, excitement, and valuable experiences. For us, it was not just an opportunity to serve but also to observe how large-scale school events are organized, coordinated, and managed efficiently. The experience of being part of the First Aid duty gave us practical exposure and confidence to handle real situations responsibly.
Overall, the Sports Day 2025 was a grand success, providing students with a platform to showcase their talents in athletics and games, and instilling in them the true spirit of sportsmanship. For us trainees, it was an unforgettable experience blending learning, responsibility, and enjoyment.
