CRITICISM DAY - 4

Reflection on the Final Day of Models of Teaching Criticism Sessions

The final day of our optional class criticisms was a resounding success, marked by two exceptional lessons that showcased strong teaching skills and effective methodology. Both classes we observed were based on the Constructivist Model, which proved to be highly engaging and student-centered.

From 10:00 to 10:40 AM, Sherin Joji presented a lesson on the topic "Types of Triangles." She skillfully used charts and visual aids, making the content visually appealing and easier for students to grasp. Her interactive approach clearly helped students participate actively and understand the concept more effectively.

Following that, from 10:50 to 11:30 AM, Shymol conducted a class on "Introduction to Polygons." Like Sherin, she also adopted the Constructivist Model and integrated visual aids to support her teaching. Her calm and clear explanations, combined with active student engagement, made the session enjoyable and informative.

Both classes were well-organized and thoughtfully delivered, highlighting the effectiveness of the Constructivist approach in making mathematics interactive and student-friendly. I found the sessions inspiring, as they not only demonstrated content mastery but also modelled best teaching practices.

This experience marked a meaningful conclusion to our Models of Teaching criticism days. It gave us valuable insights into classroom strategies, enhanced our understanding of effective lesson planning, and reinforced the importance of using visual aids and student participation in teaching.

CRITICISM DAY - 3

Reflection on My Constructivist Model-Based Class on Probability

On June 9, 2025, I conducted a 40-minute class on "Introduction to Probability" using the Constructivist Model. I followed six key teaching phases: Situation, Grouping, Bridging, Questioning, Exhibits, and Reflection.

I began the lesson with a story to capture the students’ interest, connected it to their prior knowledge, and encouraged group-based learning. I used visual aids like PowerPoint and charts to support understanding. The students were actively engaged through questioning and collaborative activities.

I concluded the session with a reflection phase to assess their learning and address any doubts. Overall, the class helped me improve my teaching skills, especially in managing time and the classroom effectively, and it enhanced student engagement.

Anjana L presented a 30-minute class on “Lateral Surface Area of Cylinder” from the Prism unit of Class 9 Mathematics, using the Inquiry Training Model from 10:00 to 10:30 AM. This was followed by Ansha Shibu, who delivered a 40-minute session on “Introduction to Prisms” using the Concept Attainment Model from 10:50 to 11:30 AM.

Both sessions were engaging and informative. Peers and faculty provided constructive feedback, appreciating the teaching efforts and suggesting improvements.

In the latter part of the day, I actively participated in two more teaching model simulations, which further enriched my understanding and teaching skills.
