TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE - 1
WEEKLY REFLECTION- 1
Date: 14 July – 18 July 2025
School: St. Mary’s HSS, Kizhakkekara
The first week of my school-based teaching practice at St. Mary’s HSS was a new and enriching experience that helped me grow both personally and professionally.
On 14 July 2025 (Monday)
I began my practice by handling my first class in 9E during the 3rd period. This was my introductory class on the topic “Parallel Lines – Property of Equal Division”. It was also the first time I prepared a proper lesson plan. Though I felt a bit nervous, I managed to engage the students with real-life examples, PowerPoint presentations, and board work. My mentor, Renju Teacher, observed the class, and it became a memorable start to my teaching journey.
On 15 July (Tuesday)
There were no regular classes due to Mar Ivanios Day, which is a significant community celebration. Even though it was a holiday, it allowed me to understand the cultural aspects and traditions followed by the school community.
On 16 July (Wednesday)
I taught the problems related to equal division of parallel lines during the 7th period. Though I made a slight mistake while drawing figures on the blackboard, I confidently explained the concept using PPT. I helped students who found it difficult to draw figures in their notebooks. My mentor was present in the class, and it was a good learning experience for me.
On 17 July (Thursday)
After performing my morning duty of maintaining discipline, I handled the 2nd period in class 9E. I completed the remaining portions of the topic, especially drawing different shapes using parallel lines. The class went smoothly, and I got an opportunity to improve my interaction with the students.
On 18 July (Friday)
There was an educational strike, and due to the low strength of students, we didn’t take any classes. However, we performed our assigned duties in the school and also completed some pending work. It gave me a chance to observe the discipline and functioning of the school during such situations.
Overall Reflection
This week gave me practical exposure to classroom teaching, discipline duties, and school environment. I realised the importance of preparation, time management, handling classroom challenges, and being flexible in different situations.
I learned that teaching is not just about delivering lessons but also about assisting students, maintaining discipline, and continuous self-improvement. My confidence in handling students improved as the days progressed.I look forward to applying these learnings in the coming weeks to become a better
