Keralapiravi celebration

'Keraliyam' – A Cultural Showcase on the Birth of Kerala

1st is a significant day for Malayalees around the world, as it marks Keralapiravi, the "birth of Kerala." To celebrate this special occasion, our college organized a program titled 'Keraliyam,' which featured a wide variety of cultural events that highlighted the rich heritage and traditions of Kerala. In honor of the day, many students chose to wear traditional attire, embracing the cultural significance of the celebration. The boys wore mundu paired with a shirt, while the girls wore the iconic kasavu sarees, which are a symbol of Kerala’s elegance and grace.

One of the highlights of the event was the Malayalimanka competition, a vibrant and spirited contest that showcased the beauty, talent, and cultural pride of Malayalee women. The competition celebrated the essence of Kerala's women, their grace, and their multifaceted skills. In addition, a quiz competition was conducted, which covered a range of topics including Kerala's rich culture, its history, geography, and language. This quiz not only tested the participants' knowledge but also educated everyone about the diverse and fascinating aspects of Kerala, fostering a deeper appreciation for the state’s legacy and its cultural diversity.

School induction

Induction Program Reflection: My Experience at St. Goretti H.S.S, Punalur

As part of the BEd curriculum, our induction program began on October 24th and will continue until October 30th. The first day at school was filled with excitement and anticipation. The school I selected for this program is St. Goretti H.S.S, Punalur. Our day started with a school assembly, followed by an exploration of the school premises. We gathered information about the school’s history, infrastructure, and facilities. The surroundings were neat and well-maintained, and the school boasted a spacious playground, well-equipped classrooms, and school bus facilities. The day ended with further exploration and the collection of valuable information about the school. It was a wonderful start to our induction program.
school Assembly

On Day 2, we again began with the assembly. This day was especially memorable as we had the opportunity to take a shared class with 8th-grade students. As teacher trainees, this was an unforgettable experience. There were three members from our college in the Mathematics department, and we divided the topic to teach the students. Although we were nervous initially, the students' enthusiasm helped us gain confidence throughout the session. Their active participation made the class enjoyable, and we were also able to assist with the mid-day meal program. The smiling faces of the children made the day even more memorable.

Day 3 started once again with the assembly. Students from different classes participated in the assembly each day, and the headmistress would announce important updates and news about the school. Today, we had the chance to substitute in the 7th, 8th, and 9th-grade classes. We interacted with many students and discovered that Mathematics was one of the toughest subjects for most of them. Knowing that students loved playing games, we planned certain activities to make the lessons more engaging, while also ensuring that the students could learn through the activities. The students were active and engaged throughout the session, which motivated us to implement new ideas and teaching strategies in the classroom. It was another pleasant and rewarding day.

On the final day of the induction program, Day 5, we began with the school assembly once again. We had the opportunity to observe two Mathematics classes conducted by the school’s teachers, Roshi and Femina, for the 9th grade. Observing these classes gave us valuable insights into effective classroom management and teaching techniques. Before moving on to new material, both teachers took time to review the students’ prior knowledge, ensuring that they had a solid understanding of the previous lessons. Both teachers actively engaged the students by asking questions during the sessions, checked if students were taking notes, and provided additional support to those struggling with concepts. This experience was incredibly informative, helping us understand how to manage a classroom effectively and the importance of engaging every student in the learning process. We are now better equipped with teaching strategies and techniques that we hope to apply in our future sessions, ensuring a positive impact on our students' learning experience.

The session was led by Gopalakrishnan Sir, whose engaging teaching style kept us curious and involved throughout. He introduced a variety of art and craft techniques that were both enjoyable and educational.

As BEd trainees, this workshop allowed us to understand how to integrate creative projects into our lessons, making abstract concepts more tangible and engaging for students. The hands-on experience gave us valuable insights into how to use art and craft as teaching tools, enhancing student learning in a fun and interactive way. This session provided an unforgettable experience, equipping us with skills that we can apply in our future classrooms to create a more dynamic and inspiring learning environment.

Micro Teaching workshop

Microteaching Workshop: Enhancing Teaching Skills for Better Learning Outcomes

The microteaching workshop emphasized the importance of effective teaching in today’s evolving education landscape, where strong communication, creative presentation, and adaptable strategies are key. The session began by introducing the principles of microteaching and its significance in refining teaching practices. Participants were then divided into small groups, each tasked with focusing on a specific teaching skill and preparing a lesson on a topic of their choice. After each session, constructive feedback was provided by both the instructor and peers, which helped participants identify their strengths and areas for improvement. This process of structured feedback encouraged open communication and positive reinforcement.

Throughout the workshop, participants were also introduced to innovative teaching methods such as using visual aids, integrating technology, and incorporating active learning techniques. These strategies aimed to make lessons more engaging and interactive for students. The workshop reinforced the idea that small improvements in teaching techniques can have a significant impact on student engagement and learning outcomes. By continuously refining their approach and embracing new methods, teachers can create a more dynamic and effective learning environment.

 Celebrating International Teacher's Day: 'Snehapoorvam'

On October 7th, 2024, the first-year students gathered to celebrate International Teacher's Day, marking the occasion with a special event called 'Snehapoorvam.' This celebration was held with great enthusiasm and reverence, as we paid tribute to the teaching profession that we are being trained for. Following the welcome address, teachers were given tasks based on questions drawn from a paper lot, allowing them to share their personal experiences and reflections on their careers.

As a token of appreciation, students from each department presented gifts to their respective faculty members. The celebration also included various cultural performances, such as dance and songs, which added joy and energy to the occasion. On October 4th, 2024, as part of our community-based practical, we visited the Kumaranasan Memorial in Thonnakkal. We arrived at 9:30 AM and spent time exploring the memorial until 10:15 AM. Located in the birthplace of the renowned poet Kumaranasan, the memorial stands as a significant cultural and historical site in Kerala. The museum inside the memorial houses numerous artifacts related to the poet’s life, including his manuscripts, personal items, and rare photographs. The collection of letters and essays on display helped us understand the broad impact of Kumaranasan’s thoughts on literature and social reform.

A major highlight of the memorial is the bronze statue of Kumaranasan, which serves as a powerful symbol of his contributions to Malayalam literature and Kerala’s renaissance. Visiting this memorial was not just a journey into the life of one of Kerala’s greatest poets but an exploration of the essence of Malayalam literature itself. The peaceful surroundings and the wealth of knowledge in the museum made it a must-visit for anyone interested in literature, history, or Kerala’s cultural evolution.
